Welcome to DU-BBS and thanks for visiting!
DUBBS was started in May, 2006 to facilitate free and open discussion of depleted uranium weapons. The need for an Internet discussion board on this subject seems obvious to me due to a conspicuous lack of news coverage by major media, although several events occured in early 2006 that should have warranted significant coverage. It seems the reports of certain scientists can simply be ignored, even if those scientists were formerly at the top of their field, or worked for government and military agencies that stand accused of using depleted uranium as a weapon of mass destruction, most recently, against Iraqi civilians. While nobody can say DU is completely harmless, it remains an open question just how harmful it is. Since the media refuse to enter this debate, the public needs to get more involved. While there is no shortage of Web sites devoted to raising awareness of DU, there are not many forums suitable for discussing or debating its dangers. This is an overwhelming subject that is difficult to discuss in a single thread of a political or general interest BBS. It deserves a forum of its own. This site maintains no claim to the veracity of any specific information which may be linked to or reproduced in part herein. Indeed, with respect to depleted uranium, there are many opposing claims made regarding safety and legality. By using this site, you agree to be the sole arbitor of your own opinions. This site, and all people associated with its production recommend that you expose yourself to information from all sides of the debate, and that includes government, UN and NATO reports. The creator(s) of this site acknowledge concern about the safety of DU armaments and are sympathetic to the thousands of people who feel, rightly or wrongly, that DU is an unnecessary scourge set upon humanity by unnecessary militaristic behavior. The creator(s) of this site also acknowledge that a majority of officially certified (by government, UN or other authorities) studies and reports conclude that depleted uranium munitions, if properly used, pose little, if any, undue risks following their use in battle. We urge you to fully consider these conclusions and their underlying methodologies when forming your own opinions about DU. Peter Dearman |
