I think many agree on a ban against DU weapons.

There are already many well established groups against anti-personel mines.  They are natural allies.  Mutual links on sought after weapon's ban could be provided in order to bring in a broader platform against the use of inhumane weapons.

There is much in common between both issues.  They contradict the same principles: indiscriminate where people are affected, they remain after conflicts end and their use is obstinately maintained for short term military rationales.
I agree. And I think the same reasoning may be why the military powers around the world are scared to do the proper "live test tube" studies that really should have been done decades ago. God knows, there ought to be enough sources of data by now.

Personally, though I haven't fully clarified my thoughts on it yet, I think some activists should work on a compromise ban proposal. I live in Taiwan, which is under threat of imminent attack from China every day. If that attack ever comes, I would not begrudge the Taiwan military the right to use DU minuitions in self-defence. In fact, I would applaud it.

So, I think a framework of a ban on all but specifically delimited defensive uses should be floated. Again, this was the way the landmine treaty was put through, if I'm not mistaken.

I plan to blog on this tomorrow or the next day here:
