Thomas M. Fasy, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Pathology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His research interests include disease mechanisms mediated by autoantibodies, pulmonary diseases and environmental mutagenesis. He traveled to Iraq in Jan and June of 2003 where he visited the University of Baghdad and several medical schools and hospitals and had the opportunity to meet several times with Professor Alim Yacoub, the Iraqi epidemiologist investigating the ongoing epidemics of childhood cancer and birth defects in Southern Iraq.
